Lisa Dempster › Mission Nizamuddin

While at Sharjah Book Fair I was thrilled to be invited to launch a fantastic travel book, Mission Nizamuddin by Jaihoon.

I’m obviously a big reader of travel writing, and this book was interesting to me for two reasons: it’s a spiritual kind of travelogue, and it’s a twitter travelogue. That is, the whole book is composed of 140-character stanzas, which were tweeted while the author was travelling and compiled into a narrative later. Pretty interesting, huh? I was really excited when I discovered it because it’s a concept that’s been turning around in my head for a while now…

At the launch we had a great conversation about writing, the importance of travelling and how social media is changing the way we write and live. (I could have talked all night.) It was great to connect with@mujeebjaihoon on twitter during #SHJIBF and great that our relationship resulted in an event taking place at the Fair itself.

Also at the launch there was a reading by fellow tweeter @musafirs from his poetry book, Poetic East. It just goes to show where inventive use of social media can lead!

There is a roundup of the launch at Jaihoon.com and some great pics there as well, including many of me with a very intense ‘thinking face’ on. Excitingly, there is a free download of the book available as well, visit Mission Nizzamuddin to check it out for yourself!
